Member Requested profile option

A contributing member on my site has requested a profile addition that I am not sure how to accomplish, so I am seeking your help.

She wanted to be able to post a photo of her pet in her profile.

A little background: I have disabled images in visitor messages as well as the album options in member profiles. My reason, not that you asked but just in case your wondered, is so that members will post their images on the open forums and build content. I do not allow search engines to view user profiles. I did not enable the albums option because it would allow members to post bbcode links within the forum to images in their albums. This is fine until a member decides to change her album and delete one image and upload another. That would leave my forum with missing images and I hate when that happens, especially when people are referring to something in the image that I really need to see to understand a topic.

SO, all that said, back to my question:

Is there a way to create a block that could have a photo uploaded into it for the profile.

I thought that I could simply create a profile field, but I do not know how to get it to let me either link an image or upload an image - much less making a block.

Anyone have a solution? I would really like to do this if possible.

Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Bruce

The easiest way is to use a user album honestly. I'm not sure why you think having an album is going to take away from the community images and talk.

You could always limit album photos to like 3 or something, so people don't put many up. Or she could just post her user profile image as her dog, haha.

Re: Member Requested profile option

LOL! I guess I was not clear about the album. I can put it up, but then a member can use the link bb code and post a thread in the forum that displays the image from a user album. Later, that user decides that s/he has a better photo so they delete the original photo from the album and put up a photo of something else. Now, the thread in the forum doesn't have an image any more and the link to the album photo is also broken.

SO, that is why I am asking for another option.

Cheers,
Bruce

If the person doesn't have a Profile Picture uploaded yet, perhaps suggest that as an option....

Thanks Luigi, but I really want to create a block with an image. I told her about the profile photo option, but I think it would add something nice to have a "My Pet" block.

Bruce

I would check out vb.org for the facebook profiles hack. I know it has lots of options and one may be just what you are looking for...

de nada, I am thinking of installing it on my site, just to see how it works and all.....im always cautious though, my members are fickle and dont hold back to let me know when something is confusing or too hard to understand....
