I'm looking at godaddy and hostgator, but Hostgator has strict requirements and I have to make sure by board complies with their terms of service, so I have to wait longer. The bad part is that spiders are being re-directed thanks to my host and my site is offline and has been for a 12 hours +. If hostgator doesn't work out, I'm going to go with godaddy. I've hosted with them before and managed to handle it well, but that was only a blog.

Does godaddy give you Cpanel like access and access to traffic stats and traffic logs?

As far I know, I have to pay extra for traffic stats.

The hosting is not expensive with Godaddy, but it doesn't look like they give Cpanel access or is Cpanel "standard issue" with Linux based hosting?

Godaddy price / performance etc:
I have excellent service from Godaddy but I am under a contract for a dedicated server with managed support for the server. The total is about $380 a month for my major website Life in Italy, a couple of minor website and my forum. The forum runs under IIS and php : I was expecting head-heack from that configuration but so far t is working well with no head heacks.
Anyway even though if compared to normal hosting it might seem expensive compared to what I was paying before to host my website it is cheap. At that higher level of hosting the service at Godaddy is excellent, I do not know about their service at lower level. Bottom line : You can't expect to pay $10 a month and have an engineer 24 hours a day at your service.
Good luck

Re: Need Hosting Suggestions

I'm a Godaddy reseller for domains and ... hosting and these are the features. They haven't got cpanel since they use a custom system

included in each plan :

* Free setup!
* FrontPage extensions
* 24x7 FTP access
* Best-of-breed routers, firewalls and servers
* Web site statistics

* Our world-class data centers
* Daily Backups
* 24x7 monitoring
* 24x7 email, telephone, and Web-based tech support
* 24x7 physical security

You can then choose windows hosted or linux hosted so each can get what he wants. I only use linux since according me it's native to host but I'll stop here before shooting another war on OS's

If you want to see details you can go to my reseller part Distant-Help Domains

If you would like cpanel I can suggest a friend on centos with Cpanel 11 etc etc. If your account still has access, I can manage a full move server side with no loss...

Thanks for the response, it was really helpful.

Wow, you have a very nice site.

My DB is 403 MB in size, so I need to get hosting that can handle that.

Yes, I'm aware that with hosting, you get what you pay for and if you pay cheap, expect service that is cheap.

Thanks for your response, it was very helpful.

I will disagree with that statement with my host, some of my sites are hosted with ASmallOrange and even if it's 2 in the morning, I get a response within 15 minutes max and that goes for normal business hours also.

Re: Need Hosting Suggestions

I went with Hostgator.com because of the Brandon's recommendations here and from other sites. Purchasing went smoothly with clear directions on how to get domains from another site incorporated with hostgator.

When I setup my vbulletin for the first time. I had no idea what to do, so I contacted hostgator through the the LIVECHAT option and he walked me through the process and told me what to setup within the cPanel. He watched me as I did it.

Now the site is up and running, and seems to be moving pretty quickly. So the server is fast too!

+1 for Hostgator

Re: Need Hosting Suggestions

I'd offer you hosting, but no where near done with my web hosting business. In the meantime however, I can suggest Hostgator and also Knownhost.com Both have proven to be great companies to deal with with superb support. Actually, when I was with Knownhost.com they always responded to my questions within 25 min. Often much sooner then this.

Is your forum busy?

Oops. Silly me, didn't realize you have chosen Hostgator. Best of luck to ya, you've made a good choice!

Re: Need Hosting Suggestions

I checked OUT these sites. Nowhere nar fast enough for me.

I have 500,000+ posts. 215,000+ members running vb.

My server dies/bogs down with 2000-3000 members onboard at the same time.

Current server stats are;
quad athlon 265 cpus
4gb ram
4 x 36gb raid10 hard drive

doing about 500gb traffic per month in a busy month.

In fact,it's running vb 3.5 and we're looking to install the latest version of vb wh the latest vbSEO, plus few add-on MODs, then moving/copying all our members/threads/frms/attachments, etc. over. We don't have the expertise though, so if someone knowledgeable is looking for a few coins, I'm listening and hiring.

Re: Need Hosting Suggestions

Best option would be to start a thread on vBulletin forum in the server optimization section. They will help you optimize the server to ensure that you got as much power out of it as possible.
