New Posts Question!

Obviously, when there are new posts in a forum, the forum marker changes. Also, if you click "New Posts" in the navbar, it will show you all of the new posts since your last visit. Here's my problem. I refreshed my forum and a bunch of forums were lit up with new posts. However I did not have time to respond to them. So I went back about a half hour later, refreshed my forum, and all of the forums were marked read. I never read those posts, so why did it do that??? It's annoying.

You'll want to play around with the vboptions > general settings > Thread/Forum Read Marking Type

cheers

Re: New Posts Question!

Do you use "Database" on this forum? Is it a good idea? because it says it's more processor intensive.

Lol. I don't like making decisions like this. I know you know more than me about running a forum so I like to know what other admin's are doing.

Re: New Posts Question!

Now that I've done "Database (no automatic forum marking)" so many forums are marked unread. I think my members are going to be confused, lol. Some forums that haven't been responded to in a while are saying they are unread. Even after I double click the forum icon, later it shows up again as unread. It's wierd.

Re: New Posts Question!

I have the same setting but what I normally do is search for all new posts and respond to everything I need to then after I have finished at the bottom of my page their is a link that allows you to 'Mark All Forums Read' and this marks all forums read from that point and starts again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Paul.

Re: New Posts Question!

I'm just worried not all members will know to do that.

Then again, not all members stay logged in 24/7 like I do, so they wouldn't have a problem since they log in and out.

Re: New Posts Question!

make a little post about how to manage unread posts and stick it. And maybe PM all members with a little note to that post to explain why.
