New Thread/Post Settings

I cannot seem to find in AdminCP the setting that allows me to define how long a thread or post appears as "New" to a user.
I realize that after viewing a thread or post, that it should not appear as "New", and that is how I want it, but what about when you don't view it?
Sometimes you see a forum with lots of new posts, but you don't view any of the threads/posts and then 5 minutes later you visit that forum again, and they are all marked at "read". Where is this setting?

Does my question make sense?
