Is it normal to feel like a moron in the beginning???

Aye!

I've been dreaming about getting a forum up and running for a couple years now. Now I have one up and I'm completely overwhelmed and wonder if I'll ever figure it all out. I mean, I don't usually feel like such a moron in my day-to-day life....but WOW...I've crossed the moron line with this.

Someone please tell me you felt this way at first but now you're a forum master.... please.

I still feel like a moron. That's why I'm here. So don't feel so bad. It is like learning a new language, you understand some things here and there, but most of it is like eh?

It's very confusing and more then a bit overwhelming isn't it? It's been not quite one year since my member influx and switch to vB and it has gotten a bit better and easier with time.. although I'm not anywhere near a "master" at it... yet. ;)

IMO you've done one really smart thing that IME will help you a LOT and that's join a board like this one where people want to help other board owners. If you put your mind and heart into it, you'll do fine I'm sure.. just remember to count to 1000 and breath.

Re: Is it normal to feel like a moron in the beginning???

A moron? No.

What I experienced at the very beginning was much more than a moronic feeling.

It's overwhelming for sure. Luckily, I found this place which has helped me tremendously in carrying out from the most mundane mod/hack to some of the more complicated tasks with running a forum.

All in all, it's a day to day experience. Everyday you get a little more experienced and add a check mark to your knowledge base.

Ask as many questions as possible because the folks here will know exactly how to address it along with the best way to approach the situation as well. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Re: Is it normal to feel like a moron in the beginning???

LOL...I totally felt that way. Don't fret, it's totally normal and it should pass in...oh...about 5 years

Seriously though, I remember being completely overwhelmed by VBul in the beginning. I'm still learning as I'm sure most of us here are to various extents.

Give it a little time, you'll get your eye in soon and you won't look back. This place is great for asking questions and getting guidance so don't be shy thinking you are asking a silly question. The only silly questions are those that aren't asked :-)

Congrats on making the move to VBul too!
