I'm planning a contest in my board and since this is the first one I would like some guidance
I manage a travel forum, and I'm planning to offer a small travel check.
Since this is a test, I don't want to spend to much money at this time.

Does this work?
How much time from the announcement should I start the competition?
For how long should I run the contest? 1, 2 ... months, weeks, days?

I developed a little mod to count posts between two dates and place the results in a page ... I'm going to test it.
Is this a good idea, or should I hide the results until the competition is over?

We've had some great success with post contest, I use this mod - Easy Contest - vBulletin Modification Discussions

to count post count, text in the post, and you can select forums which to count post in.. it's pretty handy but it has a rough GUI

I try to make any contest one month long. I might try a 2 month post contest for this next one, that might be fun

As I've seen, the mod is not finished.

I'd like to setup another contest once I get past my opening contest (site kicks off next month officially and we are running a small contest now) and this would be a good way to keep track of things.

Brandon, do you know if CodeMonkey is still going to be working on it?
