PR4 on pages not used

Hi,

I am getting a PR4 on a section of my site that is not actually used by members or users. However it hosts my vbadvanced home page so I need to leave it there.

I installed a copy of vbulletin here: Neighbours.ie - Powered by vBulletin just to host my home page seperately here: Neighbours.ie

Google is indexing the forum even though it is empty and its getting a PR4. Also it is appearing no.2 in an organic search for neighbours.ie which is my highest search key word for my site. So this in turn causes confusion for my members/users because they may end up there as a result of the search on Google.

How do I redirect this page to my real home page Neighbours.ie

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work Brandon on a job well done with this site. A very useful resource for newbies like myself and of course advanced users too.

Regards,
Ciaran

Re: PR4 on pages not used

try adding this to your sites .htaccess

Code:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^vbadvance$ http://neighbours.ie [L,R=301]

Re: PR4 on pages not used

in your forums root, you might see a file called " .htaccess "

if not, just make this file, and add the code into it

if you want to send me ftp access, I'll add it for you

Re: PR4 on pages not used

thanks Brandon but what will I call the file? ????.htaccess

There is no such file in root of this forum so I created a file called redirect.htaccess in notepad and uploaded it in the root of the forum. However this had no effect. Rather than you do it for me I would really like to know how to do this. I would be very grateful if you would explain in a little more detail what I should do.

ie-
1. What will I call the file?
2. Should I create it in notepad, wordpad etc?
3. Should I upload it in the vbadvance folder at the top level where all the other folders for vb are?

Forgive my ignorance but I really am a newbie in the true sense of the word!

Thanks again for your patience.

Regards,
Ciaran
To be honest I dont really know what I am doing.

1. .htaccess
2. either, when you upload it and get it on your ftp, make sure there is no extension like .htaccess.txt... you just want .htaccess
3. in your forums root.. site.com

np, let me know if you have more questions

well, your doing a pretty good job so for for not knowing what your doing :p

Re: PR4 on pages not used

you may want to add .htaccess only works on linux systems. Also, you should not create a .htaccess using windows notepad.
