Re: Reputation, do you use it on your vBulletin forum ?

I have the Reputation system from hell !! LOL

I liked the idea having come from a forum that was 'just for fun', but there was no 'real' way to support posters.

So... After Seppuku has really taken advantage of the Rep system.

I have 8 normal member usergroups (plus Mod, Admin, etc), of which 7 are automatically promoted to based mainly on Reputation (although there are small limits on number of posts and also time on board.)

The members are eating it up. It works like the THANKS hack in many regards, but with the added advantage of being able to leave a comment. I have added Paul M.'s mods so that your comments are visible to others in your Profile.

I have a seperate sub-forum where when I notice a promotion (or someone else notices) we post a small congrats in the appropriate thread.

Each Usergroup gains something - larger Avatar, more PM storage, ability to use invisible mode (obtainable at Ninja Rank, of course!!) and I even have two forums that are accessable only at certain levels.

I took the time to also redo the Postbit Template so instead of Pips you get the alt-text for each level of reputation defined in the AdminCP. I have around 15 or so descriptions so Users are always seeing 'changes' in their profile due to being 'repped' by other members.

I do not allow Negative Reputations, except by moi, admin. I figure if a post is bad enough for that it should just be reported. Otherwise I use "Momma's Rule". If you don't have anything positive to say, just keep it shut.

It has REALLY driven new posters as I set the first promotion very low. Only requires one day on board, 25 posts, and the equivalent of being Repped by 3 or 4 people. Most users get the required Rep on just their Welcome Thread from the greeters, like myself. They get that first promotion right off the bat and start thinking of things to post that will get them the next level. (Note: I have a lot of game/fun threads, so 25 posts is gravy on After Seppuku. )

I have been amazed at how some users don't care, but many will take the extra time to post threads that they think others will enjoy and give them Reputation for.

In fact, it is so popular on my board that I have removed the Post Count from the Postbit as noone cares at all. However, I have added the Member's Reputation Amount as an Alt-Text on their Avatar.

Good Stuff I say!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't use it on one of mine and the other it's to soon. But not sure if I will use it or not. It just wouldn't work on mine.

Due to the nature of my forum, we LOVE the rep (we call it brownie points.) G-Man, I am very interested in your progression for user groups. I have 8 groups. I have not added the progression hack and am doing it manually based on Opt-in. Will the hack allow for proggression based on rep? My ladies will love that if it does.

Built in function of vBulletin.

Go to the AdminCP > UserGroups > Promotions

You use the wizard and select which 'current' usergroup to promote. Then you decide what usergroup to move to or add. There is a list of criteria for promotion. I use DATE and REPUTATION and POSTS. I set fairly low numbers for the time since Registration DATE and only require a few posts, but the REPUTATION requirement goes up dramatically with each promotion.

I do believe you can use REPUTATION only as a promotion strategy.

Let me know if you need help with it.

I just updated my system and figured I'd leave a link for those interested in the Rep system and some things you can do with it.

Cheers
