Restore Problem (phpmyadmin)

I'm moving my forum to a new server, and upgrading as I do this.

I backed up the old forum to several bite size sql files on my local box, installed Vbulletin on the new server with no problems.

When I go to phpmyadmin to restore the backup, I use the Import function (all docs say to use Browse, but there is no Browse in the SQL tab...and further searching said to use the Import).

When I upload the backed up files, they seem to go through with no error, and take time to load, proportional to the size. I only have one database on that server right now, so I know it is going into the correct database.

When I go to my new installation of Vbulletin, there is no change. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help...

Re: Restore Problem (phpmyadmin)

you should be able to contact your host and they can help you restore your database.

with larger SQL dumps you wont be able to upload like your wanting. You can use SSL to import the db into myphpadmin.

I'm confused as to what the problem might be though. All the documentation I read relates exactly to my restore process, and exactly to what I did with no errors.
I don't understand if there is another step in getting my new forum install to see the updated database..?

I found this out the first time I tried, and if I understand you correctly, I did remedy it by backing up small groups of tables at a time and uploading within the file size limitations of phpmyadmin. Again, the upload seemed to go without error, but the new forum doesn't seem to have the restore data.

Thanks for your help so far and for any further comments.

If you don't mind, would you list the steps you took for comparison? Versions, dbase import/export, etc?

thanks, hopefully we'll get this worked out soon.
