Screen Resolutions: Image width size

I installed GARS (the article system thing from thevbgeek.com). I intent to put photos inside the articles but want to make sure I optimize the size of the photos without breaking the screen into a horizontal scroll. I understand every user uses different screen resolutions and it will look different on each, however there must be an average display resolution that people use in today's day and age.

What max image width do your recommend?

-Luigi

36% of our visits are from 1024 x 768
then
1280 x 1024 %17
1280 x 800 %12
then it goes down to 7% and lower for the rest

1024x768 has taken over. Start to design for that rather then 800x600 now

Re: Screen Resolutions: Image width size

On my forum I like to post images in 700res width, with postbit legacy and 1024x768 resolution, photos with 700pixel width fit perfectly.

Re: Screen Resolutions: Image width size

i'm on 1680x1050.

I'd recommend using an 800 width max for pictures though, because once you take into account the browser borders, your post bit, your forum style etc, 1024x768 just about fits it.

Obviously it depends on your style etc, but i wouldn't go any higher than 800 personally.
