Setting up your form sections

there is no "right" way to order your forum sections. you try and do it logically i guess, order of imprtance from the top. i notice that many webmasters put the site news and announcements at the top, some at the bottom...

there are advantages to each way. on top your members get side news first, keep up to date on new features, etc.

on bottom, your content is first up, some think that is desirable.

where do you put yours?

Re: Setting up your form sections

I have mine up top so members will see if new threads/posts are made when they go to my forum.

Then again, some members just never ready sticky threads or the announcement section.

Re: Setting up your form sections

I have mine at the top and I also have a latest threads ticker at the top of the page for guests. It gives them a quick look at latest stuff, maybe something will catch their eye and they will join to reply. Least that is the hope.

Re: Setting up your form sections

that is a good way to think about it Blake. the latest threads on top kinda off offsets the not so on topic site news stuff being at the top, good system

Re: Setting up your form sections

another good thread/poll
Altho we do have our sitenews up top right now, I did have the seo/styles/hacks forums above the site news. Just for the fact that it pushes your content up on the forumhome page, and this page is ususally one of the strongest pages on a forum.
I don't remember when I changed to the sitenews up top, I think it was when I combined the intro section to get more members to say hi.. which I don't think has changed much..lol
I may move it back down, most people that find vbsetup know what the site is about.

yeah and that's the thing, if your audience knows and signs up cause they want to chat on topic it doesnt matter much other then seo punch.

Re: Setting up your form sections

Repeat visitors tend to get blind eye and just know exactly where to go when they view your forum. New members and new guests tend to search around and check out things as in rules, special announcements, free lunch...etc

Re: Setting up your form sections

yes another good point, if you have announcements, news, rules, added features commentary in top, new members will be likely to see it and be informed....
