I know that VB gives you statistics for the site, but where is one to give you information on what sites the users came from to my site?

vBSEO shows "linkbacks", but by the sounds of it you're looking for something that shows where each user has come from. I suggest installing Google Analytics, its a great tool, free, and very user friendly.
