The Akismet integration into vb3.7 has helped a lot, it doesn't stop people from signing up, but it does hold back the posts until I can confirm they're spam.
I'm not a big fan of banning IPs as it's too easy to ban an ISP's proxy server (like AOL) and that would stop other people from registering. | | | Join Date: Apr 2008 | Posts: 509 | Re: The Stop Spam site seems helpful, any others? I hadn't read about the new feature in 3.7.0
I will be upgrading soon, so I look forward to that feature along with the albums as well. vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner Contributor vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner | | | Join Date: Aug 2007 | Posts: 584 | Location: Tasmania, Australia | Re: The Stop Spam site seems helpful, any others? I wouldn't use this list, there are millions of spammers and a single list isn't going to be able to hold them all, and I wouldn't want a good user to be blocked because a spammer had their IP address in a past connection vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner vBSetup Owner | | | Join Date: Apr 2008 | Posts: 509 | Re: The Stop Spam site seems helpful, any others? What I've been doing with the list is taking a look at the IP, then seeing if the same username was being used with multiple e-mail addresses. Then, blocking those e-mail addresses by adding them to the ban list. I'll never be able to get to them all, but just a few here and there that I'm trying to avoid. | | | Join Date: Nov 2007 | Posts: 7 | Re: The Stop Spam site seems helpful, any others? Quote:

Stop Forum Spam - Forum Banlist | We have been getting a lot of new members lately and although they don't post anything, until recently, when I checked what they have posted it was mixture of game websites and porn.
The first name I put into the search engine shows four same usernames from three email accounts, all these originate from China.
So thanks for the link. Contributor vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner vBSetup Mods | | Join Date: Jan 2008 | Posts: 771 | Location: Ohio | Re: The Stop Spam site seems helpful, any others? Quote:
