Are there any real benefits of using PHP and MYSQL 5?

I am currently searching for a new host and I was wondering is there any real performance benefits of running the vBulletin forum on PHP/MYSQL 5? I know it’s the future and ultimately all hosts would have to switch, but I don’t just want to get it if it does not provides any significant performance gain.

Also I have heard that one shouldn’t go for a host that is running PHP as CGI-Bin, is this true?

I've heard a reason for it, but I don't remember what the logic was behind it. I run PHP as isapi.

Well it is always advised to get the latest stable versions, and vbulletin 4.0 *should* be php5 only, as php is no longer going to be supporting 4.x series.

Thankfully the new host I am looking at does have php5, though they are still running MYSQL 4.

BTW is there any real benefits of using a dedicated ip? I will be getting three ips with the account, two for nameservers and one for websites and I can order extra ip for US$ 1 a month. I am still considering whether or not to order an extra ip for my forum.

If you are going to be cross linking, it's a good idea to get IP's on different c-class IP addresses, otherwise I wouldn't worry to much about it.

I would think most reliable hosting service will automaticaly upgrade their MYSQL's and PHP as technology and softwares require it. I hope that is the case.
