Luigi has a spectacular aura about
Un - Upgraded vbulletin boards

I've seen boards still running on 3.4,x, 3.5x

What's the point of upgrading, it seems like their site runs just fine for years now. Do I need to upgrade to the latest and greatest every time they come out with a release?

Thanks.

Re: Un - Upgraded vbulletin boards

I like to keep up to date, but vb usually will release patches for 3.0 and 3.5 version as well.

Same here, also if you keep on upgrading then you can deal with minor style changes easily. If you don't upgrade frequently and then have to upgrade from 3.4.x to 3.6.8, the effort required with regards to plugins and template updates would be quite huge!

From the information above. The large jump sounds like you better get a large pot of coffee going.

So I guess other than keeping up with template changes, there's no big reason to update from version to versions besides getting the "extra features" with the new version. Thanks.

Re: Un - Upgraded vbulletin boards

I guess the logic is "If it ain't broke don't fix it" I've seen some pretty big boards running the 2.x series. If things work and you don't *need* any of the new features why go through the hassle of upgrading? Just patch the security end of things.

Really between 3.5.x and 3.6.8 all we've seen is multi-quote, hooks for add-ons, and better usergroup permissions. There hasn't been much point in upgrading unless you like to have the latest and greatest.
