to upgrade or not, vb3.6.4 to 3.8

I've been running VB 3.6.4 trouble free since its release and have been hesitant to upgrade with each new version of VB. Now 3.8 is out and I'm wondering if now is the time to upgrade. I have about a dozen hacks and template edits which have been the primary reason I've held off of upgrading.

Could I get people to weigh in regarding the pros and cons of upgrading to 3.8, and what would (or would not) be the benefit? I firmly believe in the school of thought, 'if it aint broke don't fix it'. Therefore moving from 3.6.4 to 3.8 would need to have some strong arguments in favor to make me go through with it.

FWIW, I haven't kept a record of the template edits so tracking those down could be one of the bigger hurdles.

Thanks

Your AdminCP would tell you what templates need editing after the upgrade so don't worry about that.

It's not just about features, it's security loopholes and bugs that have been fixed too.

I moved to v3.7 when it went gold and I can say that it's a bigger step moving from 3.6 to 3.7 than it is moving from 3.7 to 3.8.

Why not do the editing on a test board then export the style when it's all done. You can then upgrade your production board and import the new 3.8 edited style...easy peasy! It's not that hard to uninstall the hacks and reinstall them, most of them have been converted to 3.8 anyway.

Re: to upgrade or not, vb3.6.4 to 3.8

Good ideas Glenn, thanks!

I haven't been too concerned about security loopholes since I've loaded every fix applicable to 3.6.4 and I had been told that the majority of fixes since have been specific to 3.7.x. Other than that, what is in 3.7-3.8 that would make me really want to upgrade? My member base is primarily older bikers who aren't really into social networking so that is not a huge draw for me. Other things like Google Adsense inclusion and photos I've already built on via mods/hacks.

I am concerned about vbSEO since I read over there that their version was up to snuff with vb3.8, but that might be old news by now.

There is a VBSEO patch for 3.7.5 and 3.8 versions.

VBSEO v3.2.5 will be out soon so don't worry about that.
