upgrade to vb7.0

i've just d/l the vb7.0 ver and placed it on the testboard. this is what i would like to do and not sure on the files from the database i need to xfer over.

since vb7.0 has alot to offer.. what i wanted to do is just to xfer the user's and thread's over to the 7,0 vers and what files do i need to included in the xfer/export.

once that is done then i can redo the board and add or minus the hack that i don't need anymore..

thanks for any help

I think you mean 3.7, and to upgrade your current installation, simply upload all the 3.7 files over writing all current files then run the /forums/install/upgrade.php script and everything will upgrade.

ooooopppppppssss... i don't think we are there yet 7.0... lol

if i did that then i would have to go in and check every template out or revert it back and redo it.. this way just xfer the users and thread's. then i can add what hack i need this time... it would seems to be quicker... and close to a fresh install..

Re: upgrade to vb7.0

The only way you won't have to revert templates is if you use the standard vBulletin theme. And the fastest way would still to be over write all the old files, run upgrade.php.

Create New Default Theme from the style manager, and then you'll have a default them.

If you want to remove and customizations and modifcaitions,

Create your new DB (like it sounds like you have) and then use the ImpEx tool from vBulletin.com members area to import all your Old DB users and threads into the New DB. That will be like installing 3.7 with all your members, and with out any modifications.

Re: upgrade to vb7.0

okay.. how about a new game plan:
if i get this... make a db backup first..
then upload 3.7 overwrite all files, somewhere in the upgrade can't i delete about everything except the users and thread's.. and use the standard vb theme...

sorry for all the question.. but i got a slow internet... and it takes 45 min to upload the vbupload ... so trying to do this with out uploading all the content's. or what is the best way to upgrade to get close to a fresh install without loosing the user's and thread's.

thanks for the help...

No problem its what we're here for. If i'm understanding you want a 3.7 install with no mods, just your members and posts.

1. Backup your database.
2. Rename your current forums folder to something like /forums2
3. Upload all vBulletin 3.7 files to the old location
4. Install 3.7 to a new Database
5. Upload and run the ImpEx Tool. Use your new database (the empty one) as the target and your old database as the source(the one you're using now)

Those 5 steps will give you a fresh clean, perfectly working 3.7 install with no modifications or custom themes.

But be aware that ImpEx doesn't support 3.7 yet, you'll have to wait for it to go gold to do it this way.
