I'm trying to upgrade from 3.61 to 3.68 and have never done this before. I have a lot of mods/hacks on my forum and dont know how this will effect things.
In the vb upgrade instructions it just says to upload the "install" directory after changing its name to "forum" but I'm worried I'll lose everything. How does that all work?

Never seen those instructions that say that, but how you should be upgrading is you need to upload all the new files into your forum directory. Then once its all uploaded, run the install script. Most 3.6.x mods will work with the latest version of vbulletin. The hardest part of an upgrade is updating the templates as its super time consuming. hopefully you dont have alot of styles

You might want to first check if the mods have been updated or not, if they have been updated, install those updates along with vb update.
