VB Slimmed down JS

Hi,

A few weeks back, there was a thread and it had a link to a site that had the vBulletin JS files that were slimmed down in it and it made a massive improvement to my forum BUT I can't seem to find the thread anymore Could someone point me in the right direction please?

Cheers,

Ross

Re: VB Slimmed down JS

That had to be removed because full vB files can't be distributed.

Post a list of the files and I'll whip up a proc to convert your files for you and post it as a freebie.

I need the files you guys want compressed. Either a list or folder. I owe it to ya'll on this one.

But, There is no actual proof this works yet and the idea that it does is disputed. However, it's not gonna hurt ya none and I think I can handle this in a couple of hours while I watch football.

In the mean time. Someone did it already. Javascript Compressor.

That requires some work to copy and paste. I want to have the code go to the JS folder, make backups, and compress. Something automated that is less work.

Re: VB Slimmed down JS

I dunno if these compressors can be trusted. It seems that there are quite a number of pitfalls one has to deal with lest the code gets broken.

I have found many attempts to get this done by better coders than me and no one seems to agree on anything.

I found this one here which appears good because it has a tool to see if your code in ok for compression. The first file I tested is not.

Tester: JSLint, The JavaScript Verifier
Compressor: JSMIN, The JavaScript Minifier

I see now why the other guy did this by hand. That was a lot of work.

One thing all of the folks talking about this topic agree on is that this is a good idea and it conserves resources.
