vBulletin install - Help!

I once was familiar with how a vBulletin was to be installed, but I ran away for about a year and left all the information to rot in my head, and now when I went to go install a new forum of mine I was unable to. I'm not quite sure whether my config.php file isn't correct, or I'm doing something else wrong. Would someone like to guide me into the correct direction, maybe take a look at my config.php file, etc?

Re: vBulletin install - Help!

Nah, I was trying to help him.

I don't think his site is propagating right. You can't get to the site through the name. Even using the ip you couldn't install it. It was very weird.

I have installed vbulletin just using an ip before too, which makes this really strange...

Re: vBulletin install - Help!

Does the host have the correct requirements?
I had a similar problem in the past and it was because my hoster that time advertised with an higher PHP and SQL than he really had.

Re: vBulletin install - Help!

The reason ended up being on there end, and the problem was the domain I had purchased was still pending, and now after emailing back and forth between myself the hosting services it was activated.

I got to the install process of vB but was stopped when....

Step 2) Connect to the database

Attempting to attach to database

Error description: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhhost' (4) /home/warezinf/public_html/forums/includes/class_core.php on line 274

The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the 'includes/config.php' file.

Re: vBulletin install - Help!

who is your host?
sometimes you have to put the IP of the database sever in the config.php file, where it has localhost right now

Re: vBulletin install - Help!

Lol, if we all would put a Dollar in a jar for all simple and dumb mistakes we all make, we could make a hell of a party.
Often the easiest solutionts are the hardest to find because we think too difficult.

Have fun boarding!

Re: vBulletin install - Help!

Only yesterday I left a line in a .htaccess file after I was testing something. Then all my forum urls stopped working and returned a 404 error (vbseo) and I couldn't figure it out at all. Then all of a sudden it just popped into my head...what a twat!
