WebTemplates, Need Advice....

Guys and gals,

I've been doing some tutorials for the building of my 'splash/intro' page that I wanted to build. But, I was looking at some hacks today and remembered about WebTemplates ( WebTemplates 3.7.x: VB Integrated CMS (Content Management System) - vBulletin.org Forum ). I know that I could use a custom header which would give this 'intro' page it's own look and I can route a new domain name to it so that would make things simple for me.

But, could I disable the navbars from showing? Basically, anything from the navbar up I want to disable so that I keep the same color scheme, but will be able to create an 'entry page' to the site without having to learn all of this photoshop and dreamweaver stuff

I've also seen some templates out there that might be good to use that are free (or inexpensive). So, I could basically take that 'html code' of the template and drop it into the WebTemplate mod and it would create a 'splash/intro/entry' page for this 'new' domain name and site that I'm creating.

Would this work?

Can anyone give me some feedback as to what they think I can (or should) do with this?

I've been a long time user of the web templates hack, you can do what you're wanting with it, no problems.
but I just removed it tonight to make my own pages.. Using this tut
[How-To] vBulletin API Basics: Creating Custom Pages & Misc. - vBulletin.org Forum

and now I know this doesn't look good
Link to vBulletinSetup
but it looks exactly like it did with the webtemplates
I'm going to play around with these pages, I made 3 tonight

Thanks Brandon and Dave!

Now, knowing that I'm a complete novice at this, would you suggest any particular way to do this?

Brandon, why did you change from using the WebTemplates Mod to the way you are suggesting now?

Re: WebTemplates, Need Advice....

Okay, so I downloaded WebTemplates and I'm going to give it a go after figuring out how to potentially do this.

I asked on the vb.org and got confirmation that I should be able to do this.

I'm thinking of creating the 'entry/splash' page using the webtemplates mod....but, I want to use the domain name that I purchased for this purpose. So, I could do a 301 redirect from NewDomain.com to my WaltDisneyBoards.com/NewWebTemplate and then have the template created there, right?

Would my SEO suffer in anway due to the fact that it's being redirected?

Another question....could I actually have the WordPress MU running using these templates as well? I could potentially disable the navbar section and simply have software running 'within' the template, couldn't I?

I'm trying to save money on having someone design the WP MU software for me because the cheapest that I've had a quote for is $125 and that's NOT including the coding.

LOL....sounds good! Please ask.

Also, if I can't do it that way....see if you know of anyone that can customize the MU skins for cheap. You had mentioned that you knew of a couple of guys that might be able to. Thanks!

MY POSTING ON VB.ORG

Admittedly I have not read through all of the materials as of yet. But, before I spend too much time on this wonderful hack, I wanted to make sure that I could do something in particular with it.

What I'm looking to do is to make a sort of 'splash page' for a new domain that I'm starting. It is sort of an 'entry' page where I'm using it as a launch point for three different areas of the site. So, what I'd like to do is keep the overall 'feel' and color scheme of our site, but 'disable' (or make it not show at all) from the header to the navbar.

Therefore, it allows me to keep my header/logo (or put a custom one if I choose) and then the 'main' area with the three different launch points that I wanted to use for the body of the new page.

Is this possible with this hack/mod?"

RESPONSE BY AUTHOR OF MOD

Yes you can do what you want. After the installation, create a new parent webtemplate which is exact copy of one of the defaults (eg. Default Basic Theme), than edit it and remove sections you don't need (eg. $navbar). If you don't want header or footer as well, you can remove them too or create new webtemplate headers/footers with your changes and use that one in your splash page.

....so, anyone know how to create a new parent webtemplate and do the rest?

I just installed it tonight and I haven't read through all of the materials yet, but is there a quick down and dirty to it?

Re: WebTemplates, Need Advice....

Need some help in seeing some example "About Us" pages that you folks have out there.

I did a search and found no results

Since I have this mod installed, I want to start by making an 'about us' page (and adding a link to the bottom area with the 'mod', 'admin' and 'contact us' area) and I wanted to check out what everyone had.

Really, the only reason was just to remove one more mod on the forums.
