Not sure why you use that

There are 2 options, or gzip has been compiled in apache and it will do so automatically according how browser identifies (little guessing here ;) )
or in vbulletin admin cp option you can set compression level. between 1 and 9 if I remember well
But if the server does, better not active the one in vbulletin is the theory

Also, check with your hosting provider to see if they are using gzip with apache, some do, some don't.... mine does not. If their support can't tell you, there are some sites that you can go to that will check if your site is using it when you enter in your url. If they ARE using it, sometimes having vBulletin also use it can slow you down.

Re: what is the best mod for compressing pages ?

There is an image cache mod to save any images add in my forums, those us a big space size in the server, and he (eat) traffic too, I take this notice from some friends.

I us the Gzip too by my hosting provider, and I check my site in some sites too i find that is true.
Also, (compression level) i see this option too in the admincp control,  but I don't what he means
Finally, can't get any revenue from my forums that's why i can't buy any payable hacks or mods Thank you.

There is no need to use resources to compress pages when most servers have mod_gzip or mod_deflate installed. The best thing you can do is turn off the no cache setting in vbulletin and then browsers will cache images and css/js files etc. Also save your css as files. Your pages will load much faster and not on every page load.

Re: what is the best mod for compressing pages ?

Last night I recompiled apache on my server with gzip and turned off the Vbulletin option. At home the only difference I get (am on 56 k line there, no broadband possible snif snif) is the response time. It takes maybe a second longer before it starts to come in but then the page loads in one go instead part after part... total loading time doesn't change much. Just that it comes in one go..

Here at work the loading time is equal for me... speed is higher then server or computer can render so... But it will at least use less BW server side and for people paying accounts with limited BW that can be important for busy forums.

Re: what is the best mod for compressing pages ?

Last night! the BW limit exceed... I don't have a big BW limit, I called my hosting to increase it. It's the 3rd time in one year. (I have 3Go now) I didn't be sure that the site visitors will be boosted like that now.

The problem is I providing members with a lot of tutorials, without any revenue, either I is foolish or really good man.

Thank you Eric.
