What do you do when members start discussing illegal activities?

It depends on the situation... my members are well behaved and don't want to set bad examples for the junior members, but when the kiddies are in bed they might start getting carried away. I generally leave them alone (although one time I did delete a post and tell the member to take it to pms) although if it was truly serious I'd be the first one on the phone to the police with the poster's ip address.

It's not illegal to talk about things! Just because we have spoken about it, doesn't mean I'm going to do it. But if I've said that I've committed an illegal act then that's a different story.

But I guess you have a line in your head and you know when members are crossing it. A long as you have clear rules it should be ok.

It isn't illegal to talk about things, but sometimes it isn't smart. People may assume they'll be anonymous but who knows when someone will come looking for evidence?

i guess it depends on the subject, if its about growing pot i would let it slide, if its about killing someone or how to get away with larceny or something i might think twice...lol

I thought that it wasn't illegal until you got caught?

Yeah I joke with my members "don't say anything that will cause the FBI to knock on my door"

That hasn't happened yet on any of my forums, but honestly I think it's only a matter of time... depressed people have a tendency to spill their guts online. I read up on suicide prevention so I'd be prepared and learned tips like ask the person outright if they're thinking of committing suicide.

Wow Chase, I wouldn't expect that call either.

What happened with that person?
