What features would you like to see in vBulletin 4?
Here is what I would like to see incorporated in vBulletin 4:
1. Mod Rewrite: If a free blogging script like wordpress press can let people choose the URL structure, why can’t vBulletin? Give power to the end user, let them choose the URL structure they want for their forums!
2. Easier embedding of videos: Today using a plugin like Passive Vid I can enable my users to easily embed online video content in my forum, I would like to see some thing similar implemented natively in vBulletin.
3. Make vBulletin lighter: last month I came across a hack, well not really a hack but rather an idea of stripping out white spaces and comments from the javascript files. When I downloaded these modified files and uploaded them to my server, there was a marked difference in the load times. While it might be illegal to distribute vb files (due to which the hack was abandoned) I felt this is some thing good and this is some thing Jelsoft should actually consider implementing in their next release!
4. Make RSS feeds better (external data source provider): When I switched from Phpbb to vBulletin, I was thinking I had done a fantastic thing and the natively supported RSS feeds would work great, but sadly this is not the case! It turned out the hack I was using in phpbb was actually better at delivering RSS feeds then the one in vBulletin! I mean if a person has subscribed to a feed, he doesn’t just wants to read the last post when the cron is updated, he expects to see all the posts delivered to his RSS syndicator! Which sadly can’t be done in vBulletin and a person might just a get a post with two words while the post above it contains the info he was waiting for!
