Re: What hosting service do you use?
They over sell, that simple. There's server loads and delays etc.
Might not matter much for the standard HTML website but for forums ... not good.
You just have to look at what VPS and Dedicated servers cost then use common sense to realize it's too good to be true.
In this day and age people wait maybe 5 seconds for stuff to load, any longer you can lose them, server speed is crucial.
It's shared hosting, you share with others so it will slow down. There's no info on servers or speed.
It's like me saying I'll sell you a fork truck pallet of JD's for $10
You must pay me $10 first and we deliver on my terms, then the stuff is delivered via Ethiopia by a man with a push cart and never arrives, I haven't lied to you, just bent reality a bit.
I ask them about overselling and the slow down and the usual stuff like number of SQL connections. In return I get told it's my software's problem and should be fixed. Like Vbulletin has dodgy software.
They said that about the clock time being wrong too then it gets fixed up a month later no thanks to you who argued with the arrogant FW's.
Whoever is at the helm of that place has lost the plot.
Here's what they wrote back to me about server being slow.
That last sentence is a ripper. Well, I'm all out of optimization skills, and frankly, how come this place, or Vborg etc doesn't have the same issues and they have bigger boards and this place has more hacks than me?

Quote:
| The max_questions setting of your database is set to 50,000 per user, per hour. This setting is in place to ensure that the MySQL database cannot be overloaded with to many query requests. The queries will reset every hour and is kept by user. However every time the pages on your site are accessed you are still attempting to make queries to the database server. As a temporary fix for this issue you can delete and recreate your user, however, you will experence the slowness; if you do not condense the amount of queries your script uses by optimizing your SQL usage. |
