What are some good questions to get the forum community going?

That would depend on the type of the forum! If you are talking about just the general threads then what is you computer configuration, post your photo, your favorite song/movie/music genre normally work.

Questions and polls on controversial topics in your genre will help to get people posting. Look at other forums in your genre and see what threads are hot, then create similar posts on yours.

Re: What are some good questions to get the forum going?

I started a Question of the Day, recently. I needed them to come out of their dedicated topic threads and that always does the trick. At least a 2 pager everyday. Not that I count or anything.

One thing I do when we're getting kind of sparse is start a fun game in our fun&games section- Questions only is HILARIOUS (all the posts in the thread have to be questions) for us because they get going and pretty soon it spreads to different forums.

Maybe start with a short survey, you know those myspace surveys that go around. Sort of a getting to know you kinda thing, or you could vary it for your forum topic.

Something general and survey like is good. People like talking about themselves.
