Talking News Portal Template Design

Preview:

News Portal Template Design.

Step 1:

Let’s start out by creating a new file. I used a 1000×1000 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with a white color. Now create a new layer and draw a rectangle with #007FAC color shade and 1000×90 px dimensions on top of your canvas, this will be your header background.

Step 2:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Drop Shadow and Gradient Overlay blending options to your header background layer.

Result:

Step 3:

Since the header is just a gradient shape, add a simple stock photo of a head and blend it in with the header using layer's blending modes and opacity levels.

Step 4:

Select the Horizontal Type Tool and set the font family to Arial, bold italic, 18 pt, crisp and white color shade. In a new text layer type your website name on the top left side of the header.
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow and Gradient Overlay blending options to your half rounded rectangle layer.

Result:

Step 5:

Now add a simple white navigation interface, in a new layer draw a white rectangle with 740×30 px dimensions. Then select the Horizontal Type Tool and set the font family to Arial, bold 11 pt, none and #003C80 color shade. In a new text layer type out your navigation links with a light gray bar as the spacer.

Step 6:

Above your navigation interface, add a search box on the right end. In a new layer draw a rectangle with #007DAA color shade and draw a 1px white border around it. Using your text tool add the word 'Looking for something?' in small font.

Step 7:

In a new layer draw a circle with #0076A4 color shade next to your search box. Then under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Gradient Overlay blending option.

Result:

Step 8:

Select the Horizontal Type Tool and set the font family to Arial, regular, 10 pt, strong and #9DFF9D color shade. In a new text layer type 'GO' on the circle design next to your search box. Then add your sub links next to your search box

Step 9:

Now set your font type to Webdings, 20 pt, sharp and #006C9C color shade. In a new layer type '6' which is an arrow icon, place it on your navigation interface. Then under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Drop Shadow blending option.

Result:

Step 10:

Below your header add a leaderboard advertisement banner and a section for the weather.

Step 11:

Make a new layer set and name it 'Content Box'. In a new layer draw a rectangle with #003C80 color shade and 328 x 44 px dimensions.

Add the title of your section, here we have the latest news. Then add the date with a smaller size and #9DFF9D color shade. Now copy the arrow icon text layer from step nine and position it as shown below.

Step 12:

In a new layer draw a small white triangle on the right corner of the content box. Now under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Gradient Overlay blending option. Then set the layer's blending mode Darken at 52% opacity level.

Result:

Step 13:

Now add your latest news content, here we have a news title using font Arial, bold, 11 pt, none and #003C80 color shade. Just below the title add the descriptions/sub links of your news title, use font arial, regular, 11 pt, none and #686868 color shade.

Create a new layer and draw 1 px lines with #E6F4FF color shade around your content to close of the box.

Step 14:

Now add the rest of your content using the same content box design.

Results:

Pete, if you don't want to slice it up, you can also do it using WebTemplates.

I've put together http://www.TheWDBHub.com (it's not finished yet, but you can see some of the work so far) using HTML from a free web template I found on the 'net and placed it into the WebTemplates mod. It's a very good mod!

Re: News Portal Template Design

I had it as forwarded and 'masked'. I've changed that a few minutes ago because I noticed it doing it and reminded myself.

And thanks for the nice words Brandon!
