Clearing cache after domain change

Hi folks,

I've just moved my forum to a new server and transferred the nameservers. If I check a few domain tools websites, I can see that the nameservers have transferred. If I log into my hosting via SSH and ping my domain, I get the new ip address for my new hosting.

The problem is...I can't access the new site via my browser, it keeps pointing back to the old hosting. If I ping the domain from my local machine, it returns the old hosting ip address. I got my new host to ping the domain and they also say it's returning the new server so it must be ok.

I've cleared all temp internet files on all browsers I have, I've downloaded temporary file cleaners, etc., but I still get directed to the old hosting.

If I use a proxy to visit the domain, I see the new files, new account, etc. so it's something to do with my local machine. Could it be that my ISP hasn't recached yet?

Any help would be great!

Thanks

You could just wait until the TTL on your domain expires, or you can try going to your start menu, click on run, type cmd (then enter). In the command box type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotes. This will flush the dns cache on your local machine. This won't help if your ISP's DNS server is also caching the old results as you'll get these back straight away.

Re: Clearing cache after domain change

It took almost 16 hours for my ISP to renew its cache...nightmare!!!

I had to use a proxy to see the site, others were using it no probs.

In the end, I went to bed and it was fine when I got up lol. Then someone posted about OpenDNS which I think would have worked.

I use my own DNS server so I don't have to worry about stale records

I just have a linux box at home that I run Bind on. All my local computers run through it for name resolution.

But I also run a couple of Bind servers on the internet for a few domains. Gives me total control over them which I like.
