Custom Homepage for a Forum?

How does a custom homepage (not a CMS like vbadvanced) affect the traffic and feel of a forum? I was going to add a custom homepage to add a guide and helpful links for the specific industry. Any experience with a custom homepage? Good or bad idea?

Re: Custom Homepage for a Forum?

they can be pretty good ideas

It just depends on your niche,, I've seen success with tech savvy ppl, and I've seen some ppl who didn't understand it and couldn't figure out the navigation.

just make things easy to navigate and they can be great

Re: Custom Homepage for a Forum?

I used to write my own html homepage but decided it was better to use vbadvanced.

I am of the opinion a half decent homepage attracts new members, providing you can get traffic to it.

Re: Custom Homepage for a Forum?

I'm not a big fan of the homepage setup with links to the forum, I think if you are a visitor going to use the site for its forum then its just a hassle having to click through to find the forum area. Just my opinion though, I know some people really like them!
