Hello! Plus the inevitable question...
Do you use a dedicated server? Bandwidth advice please...

Hi folks,

I'm currently on a shared hosting plan with hostgator and I really don't have any complaints about it. I plan on adding a few things to my site that would use a lot of bandwidth, i.e. video sharing/uploads. I've seen a few dedicated server plans that are within my price range but they are all capped at 2,000GB per month. At the moment, I'm using about 60GB per month just for the forum but I have nothing to compare it too.

Am I being over cautious? Is 2,000GB plenty and I'll probably never get anywhere near it?

What bandwidth do you use per month and what is your forum/site stats?

Thanks

Good luck with things GlennyBee! Looks like you got some exciting things happening at your forums

I'm also going to be doubling up on my hosting plan pretty soon as I continue to add features. I'm monitoring the bandwidth usage to see when I should be switching it up.

is there any way you can find out what kind of bandwidth other video sharing sites use? If you were just running forums 2000gb sounds great but you should probably seek out other video site owners to talk to.

Thanks Dave, that's encouraging to know.

That's another thing I was worries about, if I go got a 10MB Unmetered service, is 10MB ok or will it slow the forum down?

So many options lol...it's all about getting a happy medium.

Well dedis are nice but if you just want to test. I would think about getting a big VPS with the same people you thinking of going dedi. And then contact them and let them know. Tell them I am looking for a good package and would like to see if your VPS can handle it. If not you will be looking for dedicated hosting. Most times they will work with you.
