There are a few theories on how life on earth will cease to exist. There's the possibility of a meteor hitting the planet and having some disastrous affect wiping out the species across the continents and the seas inbetween.
We have a problem with global warming. Perhaps the ice caps will melt changing the climate which in turn makes living conditions hard to cope with and we'll eventually die off.
