| Re: I'm thinking about getting a cell phone I think you'll need to look via another angle, go shopping for the account, what does it cost to have those features with every provider, what does it cost to use it (even worse in most cases)
most probably when you sign up for such an account they'll offer you the phone for a penny or 2 (btw the Iphone should be with singular this month, no clue what'll it cost)
have fun shopping and do read the little grey letters... those are the only ones telling you how much you're going to spit for the service. |

| Re: I'm thinking about getting a cell phone well I was going to do that but I'd have to get a 2 year contract.
If I bring my own phone in, I can sign up for just one year.
I figure its going to be about 40$ a month for what I'll need.
I'd like to get something like that 2nd pic, like the sidekicks. |

After Seppuku is so hacked I can't even reply to threads on my own forum. Half the other sites I want to visit are so messed up its not worth the effort.
Grrrr...
Otherwise, I have a T-Mobile Dash, which for the money is probably the best one out there.
And good luck with a $40/month plan! LOL I pay $60/month and have I have vending rights with all the major carriers.
Another thing to look at is the carrier. Sprint has the best Data network, followed by Verizon. T-Mobile plans include usage of the T-Mobile hotspot systen at StarBuck's etc...
Also, the Dash can use B/G wireless when available - much faster than any of the regular networks for data transmission.

| Re: I'm thinking about getting a cell phone iPhone is simply a marketing ploy.. It's by Apple, looks cool and have some "nice" features. OMG gimme one, NOW! iPhone is a joke for geek wannabes.
Seriously if you want a decent phone and like your current provider go to one of their retail spots and look around. Pick 2 or 3 that you like the most and see if they'll let you take them home for a test drive. Buy the one that you like best. |

| Re: I'm thinking about getting a cell phone Most providers will let you test drive a phone if you aren't a seedy looking character.
On the Caller ID front: Set your phone only answer when you press the send key. Almost all flip phones have the option to either answer on open, when you press any key, or when you press send. By setting it to any key or send only you can open your phone and view the CID.
Personally, I have a tracfone, prepaid and does just what I want make calls and text messages for server process failures.
EDIT:
Be on the lookout when buying a new phone from the same provider many will automatically renew your contract and extend the period for the full length as if you were a new customer.
Some providers will also charge you a service charge on top of the price of the phone for moving your number and service you a new phone.. You may be able to get around this by going to a higher tier plan.. If the price of the higher tier is less over your contract period than the fee for changing phones go with it.
Lastly, make sure they don't add services you don't want or need as a "courtesy" for extra fees. For instance, my aunt just got a new phone and renewed her contract with her old provider.. They enabled internet, text messages, and "news alerts" all for an extra $70/mo.. This for a woman who can barely place a call with the "new fangled" cell phone.
Darn.. Phone companies got more scams then the spammers. :P
