Re: less hey everyone threads

I like using the unread posts feature on forums, but don't like seeing it full of automated (here) and/or RSS feeds (other places).

I clicked around some of them. Do the automated welcome threads tend to get new members coming back for you?

You'd think they would do more harm than good since they are off topic.

Re: less hey everyone threads

It's just a simple form setup on the intro forums
the new users don't have to use it

go make a new thread in that forum, you'll see
it's more of a suggestion to the new user to tell us a little about themselves.

Soliloquy is a jewel in the rough
Re: less hey everyone threads

I have the automated thread creation for newbies on my forum, but it's in the new user's name (which gets them to look at it), and it urges them to edit the post to add their introduction. The members start clamoring for them to come back and say hello. If they don't do it after a day I erase the thread.
