Microsoft has stopped selling Windows XP

according to yahoo news, microsoft will no longer sell win XP.

Once computers loaded with XP have been cleared from the inventory of PC makers such as Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co., consumers who can't live without the old operating system on their new machine will have to buy Vista Ultimate or Vista Business and then legally "downgrade" to XP

I can't use Vista with my voice recognition program, so I bought a new ThinkPad just before the deadline. I hope it lasts until Microsoft puts out a version of Windows I can install DragonDictate on again, or NaturallySpeaking puts out a discrete speech recognition program I can use!

Vista comes with its own built-in voice recognition software, but it reportedly does not work very well and does not include command functions.

Yeah, if a voice recognition program can't handle a little ambient noise it's going to be fairly useless to the consumer. Who among us works in a perfectly quiet room all day?

Re: Microsoft has stopped selling Windows XP

Sad day, I have to use XP because my laptop is too slow to run my Screen Magnifier/Reader Program I use as a vision aid. Vista Locks up or gives me some wierd error messages so i have no choice right now to use XP. Hopefully they put out a patch for it soon so i can run the software on Vista(App I use is called Magic Screen Magnification, only good it your visually impaired)

Maybe its time to upgrade to a newer laptop I guess.

Re: Microsoft has stopped selling Windows XP

That sucks, Brain. I don't think Microsoft considered the needs of people who run special software like us; some of these programs are very expensive, obsolete, or jerry-rigged as they have a limited user base, so when a new version of Windows is released you might not have an upgrade available or have to pay through the nose to get it. I know people still using Windows 98 because of this.
