I seem to have a problem with newer members welcoming members that are as new as they are. I can see it on a fairly new forum, but an established forum, it has always bothered me.
I usually wait til I have been at a forum for at least a month or about a 100 post til I start welcoming members. | | | Join Date: Oct 2006 | Posts: 194 | Location: Spokane, Washington | | Re: New members welcoming new members Quote:

Sounds like different strokes for different folks to me.
Sometimes new members on one forum have been on forums for years. Other times they are just really friendly/anxious to post. Other times... well, maybe they shouldn't!
For the most part Welcome threads are drivel, so why care?? It gives new people a place to post if they aren't avid forum goers and it give new people a place to reply also if they aren't avid forum goers.
the above, of course is: IMO. | | | Join Date: Oct 2006 | Posts: 852 | Location: France | | Re: New members welcoming new members some use this to get post count up, but as long they are nice and polite, not hurting me, make sthe newer then new member feel welcome I guess vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner vBSetup Owner | | | Join Date: Oct 2006 | Posts: 194 | Location: Spokane, Washington | | Re: New members welcoming new members Quote:

I don't even show post counts on After Seppuku or on Foto Fanatix and thought about making the Welcome forum a No-Post count forum on Foto Fanatix. vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner vBSetup Owner | | | Join Date: Oct 2006 | Posts: 194 | Location: Spokane, Washington | | Re: New members welcoming new members Quote:

do you just have the post count hidden in the postbit G_Man ? | Sure do. Just remarked it out of the postbit templates on both forums, in fact.
I am thinking about removing it from the profile on After Seppuku also. | | | Join Date: Oct 2006 | Posts: 852 | Location: France | | Re: New members welcoming new members I did the same in the past with my forums, I had a member wanting to be poster number one whatever... posted aboutr anything and replied all just to have his post count up... made us mad in the end and I cut out the code from templates... he wandered off after a few days, never saw him back afterwards .... | | | Join Date: Oct 2006 | Posts: 194 | Location: Spokane, Washington | | Re: New members welcoming new members The best way to stop that is just take it out of the memberlist. Hard to really compare if you can't see the list. ;) | | | Join Date: Mar 2007 | Posts: 6 | Location: Hershey, PA | | Re: New members welcoming new members Although I'm new as well, I would agree with this post. Generally it doesn't really make sense to welcome a new person if you are new yourself.
But just 'cause it doesn't make sense, doesn't mean it's wrong!
