Starting a new vB forum

Did you guys do any research to determine if the subject you were getting into was too busy or did you throw caution to the wind and just go for it?

I did some research, but I didn't start the forums to get a ton of members. I started it to find new jobs ;)

I would suggest making sure you can provide plenty of quality content for any website.

Intention was I wanted to do a consumer complaints type board, I love Whining. Didnt reserch anything, just went for it. Had a couple of thousand members at one point and they made stuff up as it went along, so it changed completely. Its quite hard work, first you go for your obvious targets, friends and family, then you get naffed off because no one posts, then you spend your days spying on what they have posted !
Cut mine right down now and I have a little fella that looks after stuff when I go awol for weeks at a time.

So answer is Go for it, if you dont try, It'll never happen.

My sentiments exactly!

I've started my own little forum about Homebrewing beer, wine and other spirits.

I'm the only member so far (only been up 2 days) and have yet to get any of my family or friends on it just yet.

Who cares though... it's my little blip on the "Intar-webs" map and that's just fine with me.
