How to add a forums to a wordpress.org site?

Hi Im a high school student, so please explain slowly.

I want to buy a domain for my wordpress.org blog. I want to add a vbulletin forums onto it so it is like this: forums.mysite.com or mysite.com/forums
How do I do this?

You'd have to make a subdomain using your DNS management

Is this something feasible that I can do? Or is this way beyond my knowledge.

Why wouldn't you buy the hosting as well, if you can afford 200$ forum script, surely you can spend 3-5$ a month for hosting.

what do you mean? You mean to buy a seperate site for my forums. Well, I want my forum of of my main site. like this: forums.mysite.com

Yes it is. No it's not. LOL

Hosting is referred to as a company that will keep all your files for your website in a kind of storage while ensuring your website gets published on the internet. Once you find your host you will need to go to your registrar where you bought your web site and "point" it to your hosting company by changing the nameserver.

Once your hosting account is set up they will send you information on how to access your Control Panel (CPanel), where you manage your sites. I'm assuming you would use a CPanel but there are other kinds like Plesk, both are easy to manage.

Once you have your hosting set up, domain DNS changed, then you will be able to add another sub domain ( your forums), To YOUR CURRENT DOMAIN, you will see "addons" on your dashboard of CPanel, so all you do is create the sub domain Forums.MySite.com. Once created (takes a minute) then you will create a new directory (folder) in your File Manager structure, there is where you upload your forums files and then go through the installation process. If you don't know how to do it many here do that as a service for a very reasonable fee.

So yes you can do it, once you see the control panel area it will make more sense to you.

Wouldnt the registrar be the same place as the host? i.e. Im gonna go to like bluehost.com or something and buy my site domain, then choose the wordpress setup option

Yes, in some cases that is true. The registrar can also be the hosting provider, there are several that do that, godaddy, hostgator, etc, I think that's right with bluehost they offer both domain purchasing and hosting. You can buy the domain from them and also host it with them. If they offer the wordpress option and that's for certain what you want then go for it.

Keep in mind to add forums to your site it is not necessary to add the subdomain, you can just make a new directory and call it "forums" So your structure would look like

Your home page: yoursite.com
Your forums: yoursite.com/forums

But to have the forums.yoursite.com, yes you will want to create the subdomain.

All a matter of personal preference.
