How do you keep WordPress MU bloggers blogging?

I want to make sure that I get all of my ducks in a row before I get this thing going.

So, I was just thinking....with a 'network' of bloggers who will be tempted to start their own sites....how do you keep them all going and participating in their own blogs?

For instance, is there a 'reminder' feature that sends them a note if they haven't posted in a week (or any other predetermined length of time)?

Any thoughts on this?

How about awards for the best post each week/month?

That's a good thought, thanks Michelle

I want to make sure that folks are creating content that will feed my site traffic and get me some add'l ad revenue as well.

I don't remember which blogging platform it was, but one of them has a page with like a "question of the day" designed to get people writing... you could have questions like "Who is your favorite Disney character and why?" "How old were you when you first visited a Disney park?" "What classic Disney movie should be remade?"

That brings up a good point.....with WordPress MU can you actually communicate to all of your 'sub-bloggers'?

Meaning, anyone that sets up a blog under my domain, can I send them all notes without having to e-mail them separately or something?

This would be a good way to submit questions or potential topics to all of my bloggers.

without knowing the software, I'm guessing you could:
-make a mailing list out of all their email addresses
-post the question of the day on the front page of the domain
-on the page people land after they log in, you could have someone modify the software so it loads a text file with the question

I think with wpmu, you (the owner) can send out an email to all the bloggers in the admin panel

Oh, I sure hope so.

I haven't started reading up on it much at this stage because I want to make sure that I focus on these other major features that I'm working on.
