| How Do YOU transfer a WP? I have on several occasions tried to transfer my WP blogs to a new host without luck, I've read all the suggested tutorials on how to do it but have yet to do one successfully and can't think of what I'm missing. So my question to you WP experts is what's the best and most reliable way YOU have used to successfully complete a transfer to a new hosting service? I'm determined to make this my summer project so I can quit paying for it. It can't be as difficult as I'm making it. Right? |

| Re: How Do YOU transfer a WP? what problems did you face, because transfering WP is quite simple.
1- backup your database
2- backup your wp-content directory *(the others do not contain any on-fly content)
... you reinsert the content to the new location
... some settings have to be modified by the database setting table to make it fit IF you changed the url... same for the uploads... |

| Re: How Do YOU transfer a WP? Yeah I know it's supposed to be simple but the site comes up incomplete each time. I've tried importing the data base through PhpAdmin by buidling the tables as well as WP Backend import and no luck.. if anyone has a detailed step by step they're willing to share I'd appreciate it. |

| Re: How Do YOU transfer a WP? I've never had a problem
this is how I would go about it, not sure it's the best way but it's what I would try first
backup the DB
backup the files on the server, via FTP
make a new DB on the new location
import the DB you backed up
upload the files via ftp
edit the config file to point to the new DB How to Move Your Wordpress Blog To A New Web hosting

| Re: How Do YOU transfer a WP? Looking for someone who can tutor me and walk me through the entire process via IM
this weekend for 1-2 hours hopefully not longer but maybe depends on how well you teach, LOL I am a very
fast learner when properly instructed, I'm just missing something here.
What I need:
Someone to show me how to do a full upgrade on a WP
Someone to show me how to do a complete CPanel to Cpanel transfer to new host SUCCESSFULLY.
Must be able to communicate in English effectively and be precise and detailed.
I feel like a moron for asking for this as I KNOW it's not supposed to be this painful.
I just found out I have to move 37 sites in 3 weeks and 20+ are WP and can't afford
to pay my regular tech WP guy for that many.
I can work Saturday afternoon after 2pm (mountain, U.S time)
Anytime on Sunday. Will pay $35 immediately upon successful teaching.
Shoot me a p.m. if this is something you can help with.
Thanks!

| Re: How Do YOU transfer a WP? I'm here, I'm here, had 3 days of grueling nonsensical inservice at work so afk, they finally are done Cerebus, old server memory problems prevented the ease of which we had hoped for but using your method it did eventually work to move all 36 of them at once! So that was very cool for me. Thanks VERY MUCH!
For those reading and having the same question, if you have CPanel and are moving to another CPanel, it can be migrated over all at once, all sites, all database and in most cases eliminates the need for creating the accounts and databases. Just back up database to new host, restore ( or like me have host restore) and voila it's done! |
