Posting Content in blog or forum

This is a discussion of "forum / blog theory". I'm not sure where it belongs.

Let's just say that I just read through Digg and found a compelling news story. I've decided that I want to write 3 paragraphs about it and I want my users to see it and discuss it.

How do you guys decide whether you want to post it as a forum post or a blog? From a navigation standpoint, I find that users who are in my forum don't always go snooping around looking for other info in other areas of my site (like the blog). Then again, I'm confident that I'm getting more strangers to my blog posts.

What do you think?

Brandon

It depends on the situation. If you're posting your opinion about the news story, a blog would be better. If you're posting facts and information like that then a forum would be best.

I think you hit it on the head with that one.

Do you have any section on your site that you've posted articles ?
Do you have an established blog ?

Re: Posting Content in blog or forum

That is a really good question. I have my blog in a pretty tight niche so I don't have to worry about choosing between my forum or my blog.

This is one reason I don't understand vB releasing a blog.

I think it is neat to have it combined, but I don't think its a good idea to have a blog on a forum that isn't high-traffic for anyone other than admins/mods to promote the site. It seems to make people split their time between the forum and blog. It does work some places (like here at vbsetup) but at normal forums I doubt it will work well and could take away the emphasis from your main point (forums)

Yeah, you have a good point. I think a blog is more for site updates and opinons; forums are more for information and user discussion.
