Purpose of the Blog?

Besides the obvious (journal writing), is there a greater benefit to a blog listed on your forum? Do people really like this feature or is it something that admins like? Lastly, can a blog be more then text? By that I mean, I want the user to use a blog to record a photographic progression of development of thier projects. Can this be done?

I have seen a few forums successfully use the blog system in their forums, of course it all depends on the kind of members you have. But even a few active blogs means extra user generated content.

As for your query, I guess you can do that. People can post photos in the vBulletin blog and that can thus become a photoblog.

Though my recommendation would be to go for a proper blogging platform i.e. wordpress and try to incorporate that with your forum.

You can add attachments to the blog post.

I added one here because I wanted to offer a place for the users to post about what's worked for their site and what not. They can post other stuff too, but if you post some tips or anything you've seen that works for your website, you'll get more views.

I'll check out the blog's for this site, but I don't think it's for me or my forum. But then again, none of my competitors have a blog system on their sites. It might be what I need to take it up a notch.

Maybe and maybe not, if no one ends up using it, you would wasting the money and it can even hurt your ego! I would wait till I have at least 1000 members before adding such functionality. Unless of course the niche demands it!

I'd wait as well, You want to focus the post and energy on the forums right now. Once you have a good memberbase, you can branch out.

You can always ask the members if they would like one.

I didn't know blog software was charged. But then again, nothing in vbulletin is free. Well almost nothing. Guess this project gets put on the back burner, it didn't fit my forum anyway right now.
