Well, the internet is still available outside of cities....

That being said, alot of people still have to use dial up......because the phone lines are years behind in upgrading for dsl....and cable is still not available and the satellite internet is WAY too expensive.

Or at least that is how it is in Ohio and Kentucky.

I have been on the internet for over 10 years, and last year was my first experience with DSL, and cable.

I HAVE to since there is no alternative where I live. Lost little village with a few scattered houses. We are to far from the telco (over 8 km) and they won't invest for a few here. MAybe in september we will get finally a solution via Wimax.

But remember also that there still many people using dial up. Maybe you don't see them in your site stats, but calculate your page weights... if they are all above 100 k each, for sure most just won't come back as it is slow, and I have luck with a clean 56k line, there are many not going over 33k.... and that is real slow for forums like vbulletin. To load a page like this with image, signatures etc etc...

yep there is a nice one I use from time to time

your homepage is equivalent to 187 kb, on average 41 secs on a 56 k line. There is more then that so enjoy and learn.

Pretty nifty tool there, but I don't think I will change around my forum for 56k users as sad as that sounds... I think all of my community is broadband.
