vBulletin 3.8.3 Released

vBulletin 3.8.3

Although it's a little late according to the published release timetable, having been somewhat delayed by the effort being redirected toward preparing vBulletin 4.0 for its debut, vBulletin 3.8.3 is a maintenance version, rounding up all the bugs and issues fixed by the development team since the release of 3.8.2 at the end of March.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in bringing you this potentially final version of 3.x as the primary version of vBulletin. Resources are now almost exclusively dedicated to vBulletin 4.0 and we thank you for your ongoing patience.

Issues resolved by 3.8.3 include the following:
  • Date picker in private message filter ignores start of week preference [27516]
  • Last post title on profile page allows permission violation [27548]
  • Potential for redundant SQL query when searching for posts [27575]
  • List of members in social groups has no specified ordering [27636]
  • Potential timezone confusion affecting statistics generation and display [27586]
  • Inability to search for users with a specified custom field by entering text [27610]
A complete list of the issues resolved by 3.8.3 is available in the Project Tools.

Upgrading from Previous Versions

3.8.3 is a maintenance release. We recommend that all customers running prior versions of vBulletin 3.8 upgrade to benefit from bug fixes and stability improvements.

Full instructions for upgrading vBulletin are available here.

PHP and MySQL Requirements

Please note that vBulletin 3.8.x requires at least PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.16 or later.

However, we recommend that vBulletin 3.8.x is run on PHP 5.2.9 with APC (or a similar opcode cache) and MySQL 5.1.32 for best performance and stability.

that's the bad part ... aside of bug fixed, there will be no more enhancement planned for vB 3.x ...

more work for me if you ask, i'll have to release tons of new products that will fill the gap between 3.x and 4.0...

Nex, with that said you could possibly make 3.8 better then 4.0 with some of the stuff you come up with. Seriously.

Re: vBulletin 3.8.3 Released

that's the goal, Kevin, that's the goal.

with the end of school this week i'm very occupied, but the next weeks will be easier on me, so i will work 3 days per week on codes... i will finish what was started on vbE, and will release other tools that are missing.

the goal is to provide pro tools, i'm not into a wide range of releases of bbCodes.. rofl.

Well I hope you aren't just looking to to create simple things!

I want to see things that completely bend the way we see vb. Transform it. Which I am sure it can be done. From a front end user to the admin.

Re: vBulletin 3.8.3 Released

that's what i've done with my Statistics engine... none was released in the 9 years vBulletin exists... which is strange, as the stats table exists for 4 years... anyway, my next step is to update iTrader and release my other tools like the one-and-only Multi-Languages forum engine... which let you display different forums for different languages... and my banners/sponsors engine which is really for sponsors, not for displaying banners.

the freebies on my site are just gadgets... real commercial tools are not displayed usually, until i decide i have time to support them...

You forgot to highlight the rest of the sentence. It will probably be the last 3.8 release as the primary vB version. Meaning: By the next maintenance release of 3.8, 4.0 will be out already. And of course then vB 4 will be the primary version of vBulletin - and not 3.8. Which makes absolute sense.

Re: vBulletin 3.8.3 Released

sure, that's the logic... that's ok... i would not find any logic of keeping the 3.8 version the primary one...
