They are obviously having problems.
This is the only thing I cant get to grips with about new vBulletin teams ethics of treating users like they are idiots.
Just tell the truth!!! |

| Re: vbulletin.com updated to 4.0? Ok, first, let's assume that they tested the full upgrade of their support forums before actually performing the upgrade on their live forums.
Assuming this is the case, it had to have taken them this long to perform their test upgrade as well. Why in the world would they upgrade their support forums to the latest version of the software they are trying to promote/sell if it would take them so long to do it? We're now at 11 hours and counting...
What kind of impression does this leave on customers who are trying to decide whether or not they want to purchase the v4 and upgrade? IB should have at least waited until their "pre-sale" promotion was over to do this

Here is a quote from Ray Quote:
Greetings all,
Well, we've had our share of excitement this morning, and since this thread was going on, I hope you don't mind my popping in to explain what's going on over at vb.com.
We decided to take some extra time before bringing the forums back up this morning after the upgrade to 4.0. Briefly, here's what happened.
First, the good news: The installation of 4.0 itself actually went as planned. The upgrade to 4.0 Publishing Suite from the 3.8.4 base product was seamless, and that agrees with the success the alpha/beta team has seen up to this point.
The issues we encountered were related to the fact that the instance of vB running on vBulletin.com has integration points with various business systems: administration, release management, ticket support, the product information site, and more. Cooler heads make better problem solvers, so we chose to investigate and solve the problems with the site offline rather than live to the world.
The issues we ran into are unique to our environment, and they are not things that would factor into a normal customer installation.
Our forums are actually up, running and stable now, but are only accessible to our internal staff. Given that this is such an important upgrade, we're taking our time and being careful, and we're planning on opening our forums back up tomorrow morning.
| Him posting it on an admin site which focus isn't 100% to vBulletin makes it seem like a big Joke IMHO
Why didn't he post it on the 100's of other admin related sites?
I just lost a little more respect for iNet |

Having said all that, read what Ray said carefully. Think about it. Is it just me or does all of that sound like a complete load of rubbish? |

I agree with another poster, why not send out a mass email about what is going on. Hell if I had not came here I would have never known about that site. |

1) They are clueless when it comes to a major overhaul in a production environment and failed miserably on the conversion
2) They're lying through their teeth
This takes me back to my last post....Did they not TEST this conversion before actually doing it live?! They should have been able to anticipate what they are describing...This is not the kind of thing that jumps up and surprises you. You not only test the forum conversion itself but also everything that depends on it...It's not rocket science.
There is just no excuse for what Ray is describing even IF it is the truth.

Like someone posted earlier how stupid do they think we are? I think they have bit off more than they can chew with this whole presale ordeal and no public beta. |

| Re: vbulletin.com updated to 4.0? One would think that a post like that should have been made on their down for maintenance page and not on some forum that not everone knows about or visits. But then again this is the same company that posts an end of life for Project Tools on a FAQ page and not an announcement Just PAR for the course as far as I am concerned |

| Re: vbulletin.com updated to 4.0? Wayne said on vb.com that they have a test forum (the alpha test forum) and they also have another forum which is an old-ish instance of the current vb.com board. So I would assume that includes all the stuff Ray was talking about.
If they have tested the upgrade process there, they must have also tested those external things.
I just find it all hard to believe. |
