They stated previously that they would upgrade the forums in Beta (Late beta IIRC). I can say that we are still in the alpha stage though.

| Re: vbulletin.com updated to 4.0? Wow so it looks like it's $130 for those who have the forum and blog and PT to upgrade to the vBulletin Suite.
If my assumption is correct, there is NO way I'm going to pay that money.
No way whatsoever. I have ALREADY paid for vBlog and I'm NOT gonna be paying $130 for the CMS. |

You have to pay $130 to upgrade to vBulletin Suite. If you have vBlog or PT and you don't pay that, you will have to stay with 3.8 or lose vBlog and PT. |

All this drama right now it's sick, i am avoiding it at all cost and seeing what happens, no reason to get so upset IMO. your members are perfectly happy with 3.8.x overall so its not going to kill your community. i waiting for IB to drop the bomb and surprise everyone....im not rooting for IB, but they are too big of a company to just flush a very well poised division down the drain with mismanagement and customer distrust...

Paying $130 for something they haven't even seen yet is just not good business sense, one of them said and I have to agree. Talk about buying the cat in the bag. |

But then again this is IB so anything is possible!

| Re: vbulletin.com updated to 4.0? Yeah - the price increase is waaay too much for the software, especially for new ventures. It also doesn't look like it all that extensible either. I would rather have VB become more extensible and friendly to developers to actually make community software (like a more polished drupal or a community version of ExpressionEngine).
For a website out-of-the-box solution, VB is going to have to prove itself all over again for those 'modest' price increases. |

| Re: vbulletin.com updated to 4.0? There we go, they've started handing out infractions on the vb.com forums for "non-constructive feedback". I've tried many times now to explain that feedback is feedback, wether it be constructive or not.
It seems IB have their own definition of that term. |

vBulletin News: Announcing the Presale Event for vBulletin 4.0 Suite and Important License Changes
We hope your community is enjoying the flexibility and power of vBulletin™. As always, our goal is to offer a great product at a great price, and we are dedicated to helping you build and grow successful online communities.
Over the last 12 months, we have been building vBulletin 4.0 to be the most powerful forum and social publishing software. Today, we are proud to introduce the new vBulletin 4.0 Publishing Suite product that includes the power of the vBulletin 4.0 Forums with a seamlessly integrated content management system (CMS) and blogging platform.
As a preferred customer with an active license, we are excited to offer the vBulletin Publishing Suite at a pre-sale discount price of only $130 (over 50% off regular price). This is a truly limited one-time special offer giving you $120 off the upgrade price but will expire on Friday October 30, 2009.
Learn more about vBulletin Publishing Suite features and pricing on our new website: http://www.vbulletin.com/
Beginning today, we are introducing new a license structure. vBulletin is changing to a one-time owned license fee for each major point release. That means no more annual renewal fees. Once you purchase a major point version, you’ll receive maintenance, security and minor point releases for the life of 4.x.
You have the option to keep your current active license until it expires (according to the 12 month term and conditions). For the remainder of your active license, you will continue to receive support and have access to forum software updates, including vBulletin 4.0 Forums. Once your license expires you will only be able to access the 4 Series software updates by switching to the new one-time owned license. For more information, visit the vBulletin FAQ.
Over the last 10 years, our products have offered an exceptional value and we look forward to bringing you the best and keeping you as a loyal customer. Our team is expanding in number and expertise in order to develop more innovative features and to deliver them faster. We are investing in exciting development areas such as new products and services for 'Big Boards' and mobile applications and look forward to helping you grow your community.
Sincerely, The vBulletin Team

So here is what I don't understand... IF I pay the $130 upgrade fee to the new 4.0
is that it for life? No more renewal fees?

| Re: vbulletin.com updated to 4.0? I just got the email too; My question is how long can we expect the "usual life" of vb 4 to be? In other words, we'll have to pay again once vb 5 comes out right? So just how much are we really saving if we go for it now? Being new to vb I don't know how long they usual last--I've only had mine exactly one year as of tomorrow really. |

VB need must give us same more time to upgrade with this pre-sale discount or we can't buy this Publishing Suite to all communities (maybe one!). |
