Browser Icon?

How do I go about setting the icon that the browser uses in the address-bar for my site?

I don't even know the "real" name for this little image... so I can't seem to find it when I search.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Browser Icon?

it's called a "favicon.ico"
it will be located in your forums root..
so it will like

yoursite.com/forums/favicon.ico

here is a generator, if your wanting to make your own

Re: Browser Icon?

Hmm... so I generated an icon at that site... copied it into my forum folder, and nothing has happened. Except that now the default vB icon doesn't show. Now it's just a standard white icon.

Yeah... there are some server issues where my forum is hosted. Something about DNS problems or something or other. :2mad:

It is in the root... yes. I'll be home around 1pm PST... and I can call the place that has my server and see what's going on.

sound nasty, dns problems don't occur just by accident, rather after some mis configuring ... hope this will be fixed quickly

Well, he is hosting it using Dynamic DNS. So apparently his "updater" is not working.

I dunno... basically he is just doing me a favor until I get my own Static IP or get a dedicated host of some sort. I really can't afford to spend a TON of money on this project just yet. At least not until I get a good amount of users and traffic that may help offset some cost with AdSense revenue. *Shrug*

We'll see... it may never get anywhere, but since I paid for the $160 license from vB... I'm going to do all I can to make a go of it.

yep, expensive enough. Adsense works but you have to tweak it well, and mostly it is visitors dropping by accident looking for something that wander off again to some other link (hopefully an adsense one)
