We're on a vps, and have never had any problems when sending out newsletter blast. It's over 2600 within a few mins.

I will just be happy when I can install this ubuntu server and can start playing.
Thats good then, I've had some real headaches with mail. lol

Linux is def the way to go --> Nice and stable compared to windows.

Why not install the same OS as the one running on your VPS? That way you can experiment on the local server and then try the same stuff on VPS.

I've deleted everything on the drive, It's set to all zero's
Now when I boot up the box, with the ubuntu server cd in the drive, set to boot from the CD. I get the "no OS on this system" message again.

Ooh, I think I figured out your problem. When you burned the CD did you just copy the .iso file onto the CD or did you actually burn the image?

Try burning the disc again following these instructions

Re: What type of server should I make my old PC ?

Well I ran into a problem last night.
I'm currently on the old pc with xp on it.
My new pc that has vista home premium and norton(which sux!) got a virus and trashed the system. I have a legit copy of vista business so I figured I'd just delete the partitions(including the recovery) and install vista biz. Well, that didn't work out to well.. Apparently HP's suck and have some Err2Err3 error message whenever I try to do that.

I can install a copy of xp pro, but then when I put the vista biz cd in, it doesn't recognize it.

Long story short, I'd ordered a new recovery cd, it should be here the 4th.

Until I get the new pc set back up with vista and all my files, the server is on hold.
I'm still interested in server option though, so keep the suggestions coming.

As for bdude's suggestion to use the same setup that our host uses.. I'm not entirely sure I'll be with these guys much longer. It might be time to upgrade plans and just go with our own server.

Brandon, you should fix your vbseo bug for the duplicate social bookmarking after editing a post.
