Two suggestions: I find the drop shadow on the logo makes it hard to read, and also I think the tables would look better if they were more of a true blue/American flag blue then the slate blue default. Great idea for a forum, good luck with it! *salute*
Yeah, I would look for a good free skin to base your site off of and switch it up. I would help you with the header and adding the logo and stuff if you needed it...
