Only the support expires, not the licence.

I think that is one of the biggest things people forget, that you can have the owned license on your site forever, it's just the support and the updates you can't get.

Yes, If you require access to the member's area after the year has elapsed, you can renew your access for $30 per year.

But you are not required to pay every year. You can run an owned license forever. So you could update it, by paying $30.00 every 2 years if you wanted.
