Hello, my name is Pro

Hey everybody my name is Pro and I'm from England. I've got a lot of questions about SEO for vBulletin but I haven't bought my script yet. I plan to have my new forum up and running in a few weeks.

I'm currently running a board on InvisionFree but I'm planning to upgrade to VB asap. I'm assuming that I'd be off topic to ask about SEO etc here so I'll look around for another topic to ask questions in.

I'm pleased to meet you all

Welcome to our forums

One thing about the import from an invasion free forum, you'll have to first import that to the invasion board, then to vBulletin.

Enjoy the forums, and let us know if you have any questions.

What version of invision and why change? I'm actually considering dropping vB for Invision myself. My members hate vB no matter how many how-tos I write.

Admins love vB, people, well, not so much.

Thanks for the warm welcome Brandon

I'm going to be hosting with SiteGround I think and they said they can convert my InvisionFree SQL dump to VB for about £30 which seems quite reasonable to me.

I've got a site to go with my current forum and it's about specialist physics and mathematics first and foremost. The thing is that I'm also into street dancing, human beatbox, skateboarding, Riverdance, techno music etc so I'm looking to build a community to discuss all these things.

It's going ok so far and I don't have enough members (18 registered) to warrant an upgrade. My current (non-forum) site is all text so there's little room for beatboxing among physics essays and I'm planning to convert the whole lot into a VB site.

My main concern with moving my site's URL is my Google rank. Currently I'm number 1 for my chosen terms, and I also have results 3, 4, and 6 on the first page, result 3 is one of my YouTube videos which is where I advertise my forum mostly.

I want to change my whole operation to a VB SEO site and include a few new search terms (key physics theories I'm writing about) but I'm worried that I'll lose my Google rank somehow if I forward my DNS to my new site and don't have my page that's number 1 up on the web any more.

I've got a few options but before I go into too much detail please may I ask if it's ok to talk in this thread or if you would prefer me to post in another.

Thanks.

Pro

Hi noppid, I'm running v1.3 Final IPB and I think my post above (when approved) explains why I'm changing to VB

They can split the techy stuff out. I think someone here knows some vB moderation controls. :p

You have some good ideas. I hope it works out for ya. But I have to agree, the street dance and mathematics stuff won't fit well.

I would split them. Ya never know what could happen.

I'm looking for info on the IPB Paid 2.x series.

I've tried to split things up a bit on my current forum but there's always room for improvement isn't there. It seems to be working quite well as I don't just have text and photos to show who I am I have over 130 videos on YouTube to refer to as well. I think this gives my forum an edge in my niche interest groups as it really helps to open up the physics ideas etc instead of just lots of text as before.

I like my current setup but I need to upgrade properly to VB and then I have a lot more control over my own server and backups. I'm really into embedding my own videos in threads and also other videos of things like rocket packs, alternative power sources and things like that.

The biggest problem I have is introducing myself to new people because my interests are so wide ranging that I'm interested in just about everything. I want to shrink the size of the front page into sub-forums soon on my new board so the topics seem broader in scope and don't seem as intimidating.

Thanks for the comments

yup, very reasonable

and vB has a nice hack that will convert just about any video url to an embedded video,, test it out by posting a link to one of your youtube videos
